We're beyond proud of the amazing individuals we have helping out with our program here in Roy! Each of our coaches 100% volunteer their time to allow youth athletes an opportunity to experience the sport of wrestling in its purest form.

Club Director/Coach
Zach Colvin
Coach Zach Colvin started his coaching career at Ogden High School, and has also coached at Bonneville High School. He was asked to come run the Roy Wrestling Club, as Coach Jake Blackner took over Roy High School’s wrestling program. Zach loves working with youth athletes, and adores the fact that he gets the opportunity to coach his nieces as well as his own children.
As a coach, Zach brings a lot of energy and love for the sport from his history of wrestling and coaching alike. Both have taught him a tremendous amount! A lot of what Zach teaches, and how he teaches it, are drawn from inspiration from his own high school wrestling coach - Brad Meyer.
When it comes to practice, Zach is big on high energy activities. His all time favorite drill to run and be a part of is “Shark-Bait”, where a wrestler is stuck in the middle and 2-3 other wrestlers take turns doing live takedowns on that person. This drill is intense, and teaches young athletes to push harder than they could imagine being capable of..
Zach is excited to continue building into this program, and being a part of Roy’s community and youth development.
Roy High School Wrestling Coach
Jake Blackner
Coach Blackner is the Head Wrestling Coach at Roy High School, and is responsible for building up the Roy Wrestling Club to where it's at today. He has impacted numerous athletes in the Roy area in various sports, and many of our youth in the community know exactly who he is, and love working with him.
Jake took over the high school program for the 2022-2023 season, and produced multiple division placers in his first season, and a state placer in the 6A division. In his second season, Roy wrestled in the 5A division where they showed even further growth with a developing women's program and multiple male athletes that delved further into the state brackets and performed at a high level.
He is extremely passionate about the sport of wrestling, and shares his love for it to all who meet him. Together, Jake and Zach envision bridging the gap between youth wresting and high school wrestling into one amazing program.
Coach
Travis Colvin
Coach Travis Colvin started his coaching career here at Roy Wrestling Club with an endearing invitation from his daughters who wrestle for the team. Coaching young athletes inspires Travis, as there's something magical about witnessing their growth and dedication. Wrestlers, in particular, have an extraordinary work ethic and commitment to improvement.
As a coach, Travis brings a lot of passion from his wrestling career as an athlete himself. A compassionate coach invested time in him, sharing valuable wisdom that echoes in his mind to this day. He told him that his potential was limitless, and the only person holding him back was himself. This profound lesson drives Travis to instill confidence and self-belief in our young wrestlers.
Now, if Travis were to step onto the mat with a historical or fictional character, it'd have to be none other than the legendary Hulk Hogan. As a kid, Hogan's iconic triumph over the Iron Sheik left a lasting impression on him and introduced him to the world of wrestling in general.
When it comes to keeping practice engaging and exciting, his go-to drill is a thrilling "first to score, winner stays in" game. It brings out the competitive spirit in our athletes and keeps them motivated to push their limits.
It’s an absolute privilege to have Travis Colvin’s leadership in our wrestling community. Our athletes love working with him, and his caring demeanor. Thank you for coaching our kiddos Travis!!
Coach
Bob Cox
Coach Bob is incredibly hard to miss at youth tournaments, as he is able to get around to as many matches as possible quickly, ensuring that our kiddos have someone they can count on to be in their corner.
He is very well liked for his presence with our youth athletes, and has formed bonds with all ages groups of our athletes. Bob is an absolute staple to this program, and instrumental in it's development and growth.
Bob has made significant impacts on Roy youth athletes not only in the wrestling room, but also on the football field as both a coach and a team father. Our athletes look up to him, and respect the heck out of his determination towards them finding their own success.
